Kathy joined IAAP in 2004 as a chartering board member of the Alabama Power Chapter. She has held several offices, including President in 2005-06, and has served as chair and member of many committees. In 2006, she was the chapter Member of the Year, Administrative Professional of the Year, and received the IAAP Distinguished Chapter President award. Kathy received her CPS and CAP in May and November of 2005, respectively. She served on the Alabama Division Nominating Committee in 2007-08, as Coordinator of the 2008 PESC, and as Co-coordinator of the 2010 Annual Meeting. She began her career with Alabama Power Company in 1970 where she worked in the secretarial field in the Accounting, Electric System Planning, and Fuel Services departments. In 1996, she transferred to Southern Company Services where she held the position of Engineering Aid in the Generation & Energy Marketing and Portfolio Management departments. Since 2006, she has held the position of Risk Control Analyst. Kathy is a member of the Alabama Power Service Organization, Women in Business Technology, and Leadership Empowerment and Development organizations. She is active in her community and has served as a United Way Loaned Executive and Loaned Executive Manager, and is a lifetime member of Girl Scouts of America where she has held many leadership positions. She is a member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church where she has served in leadership roles for Women’s Ministry. She attended college at UAB and Birmingham Southern in the seventies and started back to college in 2008. She is pursuing a BA degree through the University of Alabama’s External Degree Program and will graduate in 2011. Kathy and Gene will celebrate their 30-year wedding anniversary this year. They have two daughters, Lauren and Katie, two grandchildren, Carter and Katelyn, and a third grandchild, Lucy, due in October. Kathy’s favorite pastime is playing with her grandchildren and traveling with her husband on their motorcycle.
