Alabama Division Administrative Professional of the Year

The Administrative Professional of the Year (APY) event has a long history and is a much respected tradition in the Alabama Division.  The APY event gives positive exposure to administrative professionals as well-rounded, competent individuals in their field.  It also provides an excellent opportunity to grow both professionally and personally.   The event, previously known as the Secretary of the Year (SOTY), was renamed in 2001 to coincide with the name change of our organization.

The candidates complete an application that is based on a point system and evaluates education, business experience, IAAP® experience and community service.

Each chapter is encouraged to sponsor a chapter event using the Division APY guidelines and the recipient may then be invited to participate in the Division event which is held at the Division Meeting in June of each year.

Three panelists selected from the community interview the finalists from each chapter for approximately three minutes with a question relating to the administrative field that the candidate receives a few minutes prior to giving a response.  The moderator asks the question while the panelists observe the candidate.  Points resulting from the interview are added to each candidate's previous scores. The candidate with the highest total score is named the Administrative Professional of the Year for the Alabama Division.
